Waste Management

I was in exploration called Waste Management. In this class we were learning about waste problems in our community and finding solutions to it by creating a business to help benefit both us and the community. Our idea for the business was taking trash from households, markets, restaurants and schools. For organic waste we want to make compost with it then sell to farmers, for other trash we want to recycle some and sell some. Before opening the business, we wrote a feasibility study. We were put into small groups of three to four to work on different parts of the feasibility. We needed a lot of information from the community to write the feasibility study. So, we went into the village to ask people about their trash issues and what they want. During this exploration I learned about TELOS. Its stands for technology, economy, legal, organization or operation and schedule feasibility.

On Wednesday 30th of December, the final week of this exploration, we had a Sharation. Sharation is when we invite people from outside of school to share about what we’ve learned or final product of our exploration to them. We presented our feasibility study and about our exploration, but most of time we spent on finishing the feasibility.

This is our feasibility study if you want to take a look at it:

PPYFF

Sopheak an I are in one of the groups that joined the Phnom Penh Youth Film Festival also known as PPYFF. Sopheak and I switch job to make it fair, so sometimes I do the cameraman and she’s the boom mic person and vise versa. My favorite parts of making the movie were decorating the scenes especially the witch scene and writing the screenplay. Our challenge was the dog, Harry, he was one of the actors and it’s hard telling a dog what to do. I really enjoy making the movie and would like to make more.

Here’s our movie

Year one notebook reflection

I’ve learned in Liger for three years now. I believe that my writing way back in 2012 was not so great and hard to understand. I spelled a lot of words wrong. For example I wrote comprehesion cheeks instead of comprehension checks or us instead of use. Some of the sentences in my writing don’t really make sense. For example my favorite strategies I will us is show or act it out and ask khmer teacher or friends. Now, I think
that my grammar has improved. Back in the first year I learned about helping verbs by using the CHAD B. SWIM chart but now I learned a different strategy by using the verb to be, verb to have and verb to do chart. This is an example of an explanation from my 2015 binder about an idiom called back to square one “Back to square one means that you failed at something you wanted to accomplish or succeed at, so now you have to start over.” I feel like this sentence has better grammar compared to the 2012 sentence. My level on the guided reading books was E, F, I, J and K but now my level is around W. Also my handwriting has improved a little bit by now because it is more organized than before.

Poem

Women of the Future

I am a child
I am all the things of my past
I am the hopefulness from my aunt
I am the teaser of my uncle

I am all I see
The dusty road in front of my house
A Mango branch full of mangoes above my head
An old kitchen near by my pond
And young kids running at my school.

I am all I hear
The sound of the old motorbike roaring on the road
My brother crying when he is hungry
A whispering sound near my ear
And the dogs barking when they see neighbors

I am all I feel and taste
The slimy rocks at the waterfall
A sour taste of a green mango with chili and salt
Soft feel of a forest leech
And a slippery road in the forest when it is raining

And all I remember
Eating dinner in the old backyard
Walking in the forest with classmates
Swimming at the beach and building the sand castles
And playing football in the mud.

I am all I have been taught
To be a good student and do home work
Be able to solve math equations
Reading and speaking English
And writing poems

I am all I think
Flying in an airplane to another country
Eating my favorite food every day
Sharing knowledge with other people
Having a good job in the future

I am all those things.
I am like a monkey
And these things are my zoo

But one day I will run back to my forest
And be free

Because
I’m the women of the future.

Economics

In addition I learned about economy. In economics I learned about the law of demand, the law of supply, the 5 shiters of demand/supply etc… This is what I’ve been learning about demand and supply.

As the price of fabrics increased the price of garments also increase because fabrics are one of the resources to make garment. It causes the garment factory to supply less garment. This is one of the 5 shifters of supply called the price of resource. As you see the new equilibrium point shows when the supply is less the price of garment increased the quantity sold of that garment decreased.

In class we did the research project in pair about war history then presented it to our classmates. For example: What kind of war was the biggest war in the world? Later on after the students presented  their presentation, the teacher presented to us about World War 1 and World War 2. Asian Politics Description

Name of Course: Asian Politics

Learning Facilitator: Kimchhel

Number of Students : 9

Dates: March 30 – June 12

In our class we studied about the countries that joined ASEAN. First teacher wrote the names of the countries on pieces of paper. Then each student did the lucky draw to pick the country that they needed to research. When we got enough information we created the presentation on Prezi, Google Presentation or OneNote. After three weeks of doing the research we started to present about the country that we did research about. We talked about the flag, land and population, religion, GDP and some other things. We did some comparisons between some countries to Cambodia. For example in 2003 Cambodia is having more trade freedom than thailand but in 2014 thailand is having more trade freedom than Cambodia. Another example is in 2005 Laos having more trade freedom than Cambodia but in 2014 Cambodia is having more trade freedom than Cambodia.  After everyone did their presentation the teacher introduced more about ASEAN politics. The categories that he taught us were political systems (ex. communism and democracy), the start of ASEAN (why ASEAN started), the history of ASEAN countries (revolution from some powerful countries) and so on. ASEAN started because two reasons. One is because to prevent from war (island conflict) and another reason because to block communist influence (Cold War). In about 19th century France there was a revolution to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and more but not Thailand because they talked with England that Thailand is the border of the country that they do the revolution on. Moreover teacher also taught us that ASEAN divided into two parts. One is Indochina (Thailand, Burma) and another one is Malaysa (island country).

Khmer History Description

Name of Course: Khmer History

Learning Facilitator: Darath

Number of Students: 5

Dates: March 30- June 12

Days we Meet: Monday/Tuesday

Course Description: In Khmer History Round 3 class we learned about Khmer Rouge. First teacher Darath talked about his family life during Khmer Rouge. Then we started to do the research project about Khmer Rouge individually. After researching we presented it to our classmates. We learned about the timeline, Khmer Rouge actions and listened to the audio about:

. who were Khmer Rouge

. how they took control and got the power from Sihanouk

. daily life during Khmer Rouge

. foreign relationships

In our class we listened a lot to presentations, video and audio. It sounded scary when we listened to the audio because Khmer Rouge hurt, kill, deported the family and kidnapped the kids to kill their parents if they did something wrong. It was scary, but it is important to learn about this because we can remember our own country history and it could be our knowledge.

Robotics Description

Name of Course: Robotics 2

Learning Facilitator: Max

Number of Students: 12 students

Days we Meet: January 19 to March 27

Course Description: In this Advanced Enrichment we learned lots of programing the robot. To program our teacher told us to do what challenge that we can work on. There were five challenges that Max told us to work. The first three challenges Max wanted us to make our robots move in the square using three different sensors. Next he told us to have a competition to see which robot is the fastest and what strategies that they use. After we knew the result he made the last challenge for us. That challenge was called Dragon Challenge. If we did right all we will get 90 points but it is so hard. In that challenge there were fire, dragon, people that helped one person stuck in the dragon place. We had to knock down the dragons and fires but don’t knock down the people who were helping. If we knocked the people that help we will lose our points.
